SOPA and PIPA

Greetings Senator,
I wish to express my opposition to PIPA and SOPA. I am an artist and have gained much of my clientele and reputation by using large, mass media sites such as Other Peoples Pixels, Facebook, Tumblr, Twitter, Bing, DeviantArt, and others sharing the same user uploaded format that is threatened by these acts. Forcing these large sites to police their user uploaded content is unreasonable and detrimental only to the free and open internet. These acts could also effectively end free competition, allowing major corporations to eliminate competitors with mere accusations. While the major supporters of these acts may be in the economic lead of competition at the moment, time has shown that the trends of capitalism ebb and flow with the public interest and product quality, a trait which is ever changing. To lock down competition and perpetuate the stronghold of one entity would stifle progress as there would not only be a complacency towards competition, but a fear of legal persecution for the notion. Modern society enjoys amenities that thrive on the progression of discipline through healthy competition and level playing field. Stifling an up and coming artist who may use these user uploaded platforms could be to potentially deprive our world of a great work of art. Artistic expression is one of the beauties of mankind that sets us apart from the animal kingdom. Human history is art history. Material and technique mark the advance of our species. Subject depicts our emotion and mindset as a people. Life imitates art and some of our technologies, ideals, and social engines are imitations of direct artistic works. What kind of world are we moving towards where the interest of big business and corporations supersede the very voice of man himself? What bleak future are we leaving to our children where the drab figures of accounting replace the color and beauty of artistic expression. I urge you Senator, please think of the long term repercussions and allotments provided by these acts, and how they relate to the phenomenon and beauty that is man and his expression. Corporate produced and government facilitated art will never have the voice or benefit of pure expression. Please do not pass these acts. Thank you for your time.
Regards,
Jonathan Prince
